SSA #55 Renewal

That’s a wrap! SSA #55 has been successfully reconstituted. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Needs Assessment Survey, Virtual Community Meetings, and Public Hearing. Special thanks to the Advisory Committee and Mary Gill, Executive Director of the Mount Greenwood Community and Business Association, who helped champion this process and successful reconstitution !

Thank you to the Mount Greenwood community for your support throughout this process.  The SSA #55 renewal application and signatures of support were submitted and accepted in August 2021. A virtual Public Hearing was held on November 4, 2021 at 1:20 pm where the Committee on Economic, Capital and Technology Development heard from local businesses and residents regarding the reconstitution of SSA #55.  Property owners within the SSA were notified by mail of the Hearing and the Zoom details are provided here for reference.

The Mount Greenwood Community and Business Association (MGCBA) initiated this study to learn from local businesses what services they want to continue seeing from the SSA and what ideas they have for future initiatives along the 111th Street Corridor in the SSA. Renewing SSA (Special Service Area) #55 is required by the City of Chicago, otherwise all services and programs as outlined below, will be discontinued in 2022. Questions + Answers

Why is an SSA needed?

An SSA is an economic development tool that brings businesses together to collectively decide how tax dollars can be spent locally to maintain and promote a shared business district. Today’s retail environment is challenging. Now more than ever, business owners understand the need to have a strategic and collaborative effort to identify common priorities and coordinate local improvements and marketing. An SSA can fund these goals and help local businesses stay competitive, attractive, and desirable for residents and customers alike.

Making Impacts

Our SSA by the Numbers

The Mount Greenwood SSA #55 totals a one-mile stretch of corridor between Sacramento and Central Park on 111th Street, as well as a small portion along Kedzie. Within this stretch numerous physical improvements, streetscape enhancements, and maintenance measures take place. These are in addition to the community events, shop small campaigns, and business seminars hosted.
